I was first introduced to risk management and RIMS when I was young, my father was a risk professional. Risk was a standing topic of conversation at home. Sounds boring, but it was interesting to learn about the world of risk. I even completed a work experience program for school in risk management. The risk profession is not tied to just one industry. I’d have to say that is the piece that keeps me so passionate and interested in being a risk professional. Being a risk professional has been rewarding and challenging at the same time. Working with stakeholders within my organization to make informed risk-based decisions, tying all the pieces together using a risk lens, is one of the most reward parts of being a risk professional.
After graduating from post-secondary, I went on to achieve the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation and accepted my first role in risk management with a not for profit organization. Shortly after achieving my CRM, I started attending sessions hosted by the Northern Alberta Chapter of RIMS (NARIMS). I have been volunteering on the NARIMS board of directors for the past 11 years, holding various roles including Secretary, RIMS Canada Council NARIMS Representative and Co-Chair for the 2019 RIMS Canada Conference.
